RHEINZINC

Electrolytically refined zinc with a 99.995% degree of purity, it’s the basis of this special alloy, which also includes copper and titanium. The composition of the alloy is one of the factors determining the technological properties of the material which is certified as eco-friendly and labelled as QUALITY ZINC by TÜV Rheinland

The material conserves its radiant qualities for a small eternity, thanks to the special protective patina that naturally forms on the exposed surface.

When exposed to the atmosphere, zinc reacts with oxygen to form zinc oxide, which further reacts with water molecules in the air to form zinc hydroxide. Finally zinc hydroxide reacts with carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to yield a thin, impermeable, tenacious and quite insoluble dull gray layer of zinc carbonate (patina) that provides its high degree of resistance to atmospheric corrosion.

The patina not only protects the underlaying material, but even the natural ageing process and the contact with rainwater enable a self-cleaning process of the material.
